It's a Diesel and to be honest, it's not the prettiest.....

I've never liked the CLS appearance, though that's nothing more then personal taste, the fact it's a diesel would bother me more. In the distant past I've owned diesels and they were fine, no real problems with any of them, but none of them had the instant response of a decent petrol car when you hit the accelerator, they always took a second or so to respond, after which the mid-range torque was great, but again that's just personal preference, maybe it wouldn't put most buyers off.

Having slept on it................................I've decided not to buy a silver car with black interior, but to hang on until something more appealing comes along. Thanks for all the views and advice. :)

@dry run I think its sensible never to buy something just for the sake of it or, in a hasty quick decision as usually the magic will be short lived. Just let the right things find their own way in and out of your life.

I had Alpaca in my 207 and used to have to clean the seats regularly even though I rarely wore anything ”dirty” in it. My GLC has black interior (no choice) and I’ve never had to clean the seats!
They’re just as dirty, just you can’t see it...

I’ve found the opposite, dirty diseasals respond with huge torques straight from the off. Have to get the revs up first on the petrols.
I’d only not have another due to all the emissions carp badly bolted on.

I know and I do give them a wipe over from time to time but what the eye can’t see etc...

Totally agree. I’d happily have another oil burner if it wasn’t for all the complications.

The interior on my E63 sold the car to me. Fed up with sombre black interiors and would never go back to one unless the rest of spec of the car was what I wanted. As for black exteriors, wasn't my first or even 3rd choice, but it looks great when freshly cleaned. It's just keeping it clean that's the hard work.
Palladium silver with the light grey interior is my perfect colour combination. I don't do enough miles to warrant a diseasle, but a nice big forced induction V8 petrol fits the bill.

On the modern big Mercs, I'm really liking the thought of Hyacinth Red with Ivory interior.

This one needs the paintwork sorting out but you get the idea LINK. Now add a shooting brake, make its a CLS63, no more than 2 owners and this side of 50,000 miles, around 2015 model and that would have me trundling towards a realistic purchase.

Yep, that's the colour combo! Got to be a shooting brake, maximum 2 owners, <50,000 miles, built after 2014-2017 and in AMG 63 guise.
No pressure then...;)

And the Nexen tyres

More often than not, we rarely see people buying premium rubber for their shiny new cars. You'd be shocked at the number of flashy new car owners are always begging for part worns! o_O When certain sizes have a limited choice or, one has a puncture and they need to get it sorted with a premium tyre, they act like they have the world on their shoulders

I have to admit, as much as I slag off car dealers, most of our trade customers insist on something decent or premium without batting an eye lid on price.

We once declined to buy a Lexus LS430 as it needed four new tyres. We would only countenance decent ones, which would have cost 25% of the value of the car. Didn't make economic sense, really...

It's frustrating that you can find AMGs and S-Classes with light interiors, but E-Class estates after a certain age...

Like this...

Pity about the engine :(

Yeah 2.1 derv .

Somewhere someone was on about a convertible 250 CDI , not a good aural experience I'm sure .

But.. please remind me of the torque figure of a R171 SLK 280 3.0 L petrol ??

Each to their own but, regardless of value of a car, on principle, I never skimp on tyres.

It’s a pity as the OP was looking for a 350... ;)
No idea, I’m sure google does though
