Why w124 sportline manual gearbox is the other way?

Why first gear in sportline manual gearbox is switched down not up like in all usual gearboxes? :?:
Must be a reason.

Its sporty - The idea is you don't use 1st a lot so they used to do the gate 2-5 rather than 1-4. A lot of sporty cars had a dog leg 1st.- I think ferrari did it too.
Just fashion I think.

Dogleg box

Most cars with a "Dogleg" box have a Getrag box in them. Getrag made boxes for BMW & others and on the "sports" box first was behind reverse with 2-3 and 4-5 in the same plane

Mercedes make their own gearboxes but maybe they bought in the Getrag dogleg for sports versions. I believe the 190 Cosworth 2.3-16 had a dogleg but I didn't know the W124 Sportline box was like that

My ferrari is the same .Unusual for it on a common run of the mill car though.
