2014 639 Viano- 651, 5sp Auto. 2009 S211- 646, 5sp Auto.
Wider tyres will have a greater rolling resistance and so consume more go go juice.
Is anyone able to give a real world estimate of what the difference might be?
Specifically from 17" 225's reduced to 205's.
I would look to increase the profile from 55 up to 65 to keep the speedo close or even more accurate (as it under by 8%(ish)) anyway and I prefer the softer higher profile ride.

I went from 16" 205s to 17" 245s and it hit the mpg by 10%.

And let’s face it, that 10% can half be explained away by driving style/ weather/ environmental inconsistencies.

The reality is, tyre footprint and even grip profile is on the slippery slope of diminishing returns for improving fuel efficiency..!

It can, though in my case I was on cruise across France in identical traffic but at different times of year. Where we used to regularly nudge 36mpg we now get 32-33 equally regularly.

I’ve noticed my CL has dropped from 28- 30 down to 25-26mpg in the last year too. But as you say- it’s getting the final few percent of improvement that’s the hardest.
