Morning Chaps,

I'm after some advice. I need to get a new set of wheels for my CLK its the earlier model the W208.

The current wheels are 7.5 inches wide at the front and 8.5 inches at the rear.

I have seen a nice set of wheels, but these are 8.5 inches all round. Is this going to cause any problems at the front? Can the car handle an extra inch of width at the front?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Ben.

Did these different widths come as standard?

Yes, the current wheels are 17" AMGs which come as standard with the rears wider than the front.

The wheels i have seen are 18" in diameter, 8.5" wide allround, have an offset of 35, and a stud fitment of 5x112.

Any idea if these will fit?

Got any photos?
It will make the steering heavier thats for sure.
You may need to get your speedo recalibrated unless the tyres you choose to go with the 18" rims have more or less the same rolling radius as your existing setup.
Its an awfull lot of money for no practical benefit - and they will certainly make the ride noiser and harsher.
But of course they will no doubt look the doggies danglers - which is probably what its all about anyway. :D

Why not slip one of you rear wheels that you have now onto the front and see how it drives, checking that the wheel clears everything

Thanks for the replies.

The problem i have is that the driver side wheels front and back are damaged and are not driveable.

So i can either just replace these two wheels, or treat my lovely car to a new set.

It might be safer just to replace the two?

Well then just jack the car and fit a good back wheel to see if it spins ok and and turn the wheel from lock to lock

You can check on wheel fítments here

Thanks for that. I checked on alloywheels direct and the ones i wanted wont fit unless i do some work to the wheel arches, which sounds like a lot of time, effort and money.

So i'll stick to what i know and go with the standard 17" AMGs.

Thanks for your help.

Bengamin,

8.5J x 18 on the front will go on fine but you must fit the correct tyres to keep the rolling Radii the same.
I have just fitted a staggered fitment of 8.5J x 19 to the front and 9.5J x 19 to the rear of my W208 CLK and they are fine, I will get some pictures sorted soon but you will have no problems as long as you use the link previously given and fit the correct tyres. ;-)

Me And My Merc

Hi , I also have just fitted 19"wheels with 35 and 30 profile tyres to my 320 Clk and although The ride is different its still smooth and comfortable ,only the largest pot-hole brings it home you have very low profile tyres and larger wheels ,this is of-set by the improved handling and great looks.

Good Luck And Happy New Year To All.
