Check for a plastic bag caught on the exhaust underneath the car.

As it’s had some front end damage are there any bits of plastic trim, covers etc. getting worn away by moving parts?

get under the hood (bonnet), Take the covers off. Start the car (careful of moving parts) and start sniffing and looking.

i looked and it doesn’t smell on the outside it’s only the inside

You can get aerosol cans of disinfectant which you release inside the car while running the air con. The gas cleans the pipes and kills off the mould. If its really bad you may need to do it twice. Do check the cabin filter as its often overlooked during servicing and can get very dirty...

A very weak possibility its the Cats, we have experienced this on my SL55 when it was cracked and still get a strong sulphur smell from time to time during my hard out driving, not that I do such a thing.........My Missus complained a bit when she had her Alfa V6 that it used to give off a horrible burning stinky smell at times. One day when I was out and driving I hit the rev limiter (very easy to do in the Alfa) and then she said 'that's the smell'! See I told you I get that smell when I am driving it)

My thoughts are:
- Something cracked on the exhaust system or a leaking exhaust gasket. You can normally test this by holding small feathers or a thin strip of tissue paper near the exhaust when it's running and the puffing from the exhaust should be noticeable. When testing up near the manifold, do it from cold and quickly, as the manifold heats up quickly!
- As above, something caught/rubbing/resting on a hot surface, causing smoldering plastic or rubber.
- Also as above, something rank in the air con system or water drainage system. I would remove the scuttle panel under the wipers and make sure that's all clean, and make sure all the bonnet drains are draining, and I would also make sure the heater matrix/cabin climate pipework drain is also not blocked. Once that's all confirmed, you can try a can or two of the air con disinfectant. Follow the can instructions.

Oh, and also listen and try to ascertain if the cabin isolation/recirculation flap is actually working. If that was stuck closed for some reason, that could be retaining moisture in the cabin maybe?
