So with me looking at a new car the misses is taken more of an interest in her 2019 A200.
Yesterday she found out she has the foot swipe boot open function only issue is the boot only opens by a few inches and not all the way. What is the point in that you Walt back to your car laden with shopping is your foot and then put everything down to open the boot:eek:. So I’m guessing the struts are not doing there job. Before I take the hinge off and have a look are these adjustable? Will they just need a clean and a bit of lubricant?
I guessing they just need a little TLC.

Is it the tailgate on a hatchback or boot on a saloon ?

Generally speaking ,normally the tailgate is motorised due to its weight and the boot is reliant on (adjustable) springs to open.

It’s a saloon version. The boot literally moves a few inches. I don’t think my wife’s I powered as there no closing function just opening as far as I know.

When i fitted a rear spoiler to the 4 series i had to adjust the spring position on the hinges as even the minimal weight of the spoiler prevented it opening fully.

There were a few positions that the springs could be located possibly to take into account options fitted like spoilers / cameras etc.

Car does have a rear camera no spoiler tho. It seems pretty light just the smallest adjustment will do it I think. Might have a go tomorrow afternoon
