Wind deflector for CLK230

I need some help. I bought a wind deflector via ebay a few weeks ago, and it fits ok, but I cant get it to click firmly in place. It worked once but now I can,t get it to secure firmly.
I,ve looked at the mechanism on the end of the deflector, and looked inside where it should click into place and I can see how it should work, but it does not. There is a lug inside the receptacle in the car body, which the deflector should connect to, but it does not, as the lug is pointing downwards and will not move up to accept the deflector. worse, I have damaged the right hand receptacle and I need to replace it, but getting it out seems a major task.

Can anybody help on this, I hope I have explained it clearly
