I 2005 BMW E60 530d. 2012 Mercedes e class estate.
Her indoors has decreed she wants a set of wind deflectors for her 2012 E Class Estate as she prefers driving with the window down. I have no knowledge or experience of these additions. Are they a waste of time and money and if not, are there any recommendations as to which ones are best please. Many thanks.

Stop the rain running in when the window is open, modern cars have no roof gutter so with these you can open the window just over an inch before the top of the glass is uncovered and driving at speed the window can be down around six inches on front doors unless rain is tipping down
I have had them on a w210 and a Jeep grand Cherokee and a Peugeot 107.
When getting a new car they are one of the first mods I do to it.

I have only ever used the Heko brand , but there are others that are cheaper

Sadly I can’t have them on my CLS x218 because the windows are frameless, I’m sick and tired of a wet right arm☹️

I just fitted Heko to my ML350 as I have done to probably all of my cars.

Before I had them on I had just washed and polished the body work and as normal it rained. Not a problem really as the water beaded nicely but what I didnt bank on was having my daughter in the car with her window open and going around a slight right hand bend which resulted in what looked like all the water oin the roof rolling across the roof and into her side window. Was quite funny at the time !

When we first bought the 968 cab it did not have a wind deflector, and SWMBO has long hair. The top down drive from roughly Peterborough to daughter's place in Aylesbury led to serious earache from the passenger seat. Shortly thereafter I bought and fitted a genuine Porsche wind deflector - and we had the car for another 8 years without complaint! Money well spent, especially on the 19 day 2600 mile trip across Northern Spain back through France!! We have them on the SLK, the only thi ng I'd like is the Smart-top ability to put the rear 1/4 windows back up when the roof is down - but it's about £400 for that!

Different wind deflector…
Ones being discussed above are the plastic bits fitted around the windows
