The latest problem to hit me on my 1999 280 SL is that 2 weeks ago the drivers window would not work, you could hear the motor whirring but no movement. I was told that it needed a new regulator and had this done at a non mercedes garage with whom I have dealt with for a number of years.
Two weeks later and the same problem. I could hear the whirring sound of the motor but no movement. I took it back to the garage who said that what had now happened was that the spindle and gear from the motor were worn (knackered) so whilst the motor was working it was not moving the window.
Told that you cant replace spindle/gear and have to get new motor at £157 + VAT and fitting time, on top of my expense for the regulator last week. B****r! To be fair there is a note on my 2 week old invoice saying motor worn.
Any thoughts/comments gents?
