What ever you do, do not use metalized film on the rear window.

Ive just had my 211 estate done by South Coast Tints, Southampton for just under £300 and really pleased with them.

Had my W203 Estate done by Global Tint with 20% Johnsons film so it was to OEM specs and no too dark, cost £175

There is a limit on how dark you can go on the side windows, my pano roof is all black.

Side windows have to let 70% light through hence why they are seldom tinted on top of the OEM tint.

You could tint the rear window

My rears are done 80% and the fronts 50%. It's a really good balance! I know it's illegal but it's not that noticeable. £300 is a bit steep.. I paid £195.

Thanks for replies.
I've rang a couple of company's near to me, one said they wouldn't touch it !!.
The other said it would cost silly money, as windows /interior trim has to come out ??

The above was mentioned to myself when i asked Pentagon to quote me for tinting the windows on my CLS. They said that because of the poor accessibility of the lower part of the rear screen then the rear seat / shelf / subwoofer would all need to be removed for them to do the job properly.

It was at that point the appeal of tinted windows suddenly faded .

I wondered why they quoted more to tint three windows than a mate paid to have ALL the windows done on his 5 series wagon.

Sonniboy shades are good. I have OEM privacy glass and also the vanstyle shades. The only thing that bugs me with the shades is the top clips which stick on don't do well with the heat. Just had to order a couple of packs to replace the ones that have fallen off.

Be careful if your tint is over the legal limit, if involved in a crash your insurance will be invalid, any Company who will tint your windows over and above the recommended limit will be libel to prosecution, one more thing if you get stopped by the police you could be prosecuted...Just not worth the risk

And where is your evidence of this?
My evidence to the contrary is below;
I have had a CLS with tinted fronts over the legal limit written off after someone ran into the rear of it.
Car sat in the authorised repairers, was inspected by the insurance company and they paid out in full, no issues.

Maybe because you were rear-ended and the tints had no bearing on the accident , if you had pulled out on someone and they had ran into the side of you then it may have been a different outcome.

I wonder how some people can see anything out their side windows at night time due to their tints being so dark, and there seems to be more and more cars with 50% plus tints on their side windows and how they are getting away with it is beyond me as it must be an easy "pull" for the cops as there is no dubiety as to their legality.

The reason the cops don't pull is they don't all carry the meter to test the light throughput.

But I agree the 70% light throughput on the front side windows (so legally no more than a 30% tint) is there for a reason. From the B-Pillar back you can go as dark as you like.

I remember a tweet from one of the local police forces that I follow on Twatter. They showed a block driving at night with his side windows with limo style tints AND wearing sunglasses. He couldn't understand that's probably why he didn't see the car coming toward him as he pulled out of a junction. But he looked 'cool' whilst getting T-Boned!
