Window Wiper Switch ?

Hello Forum Peeps,
I have a 1991 300sl , which is fine, except.... my window wipe switch is intermittant and sometimes non existant as in , switch 1 and 2 have now stopped working alltogether, just fast wipe works.... i phoned MB they quoted me over £300 for a relay, but it seems this relay works many things, all of which are working..... except the wipe of course, anyone know how to take the switch off to get at it? as im a complete novice in Car D.I.Y

yes your car has the big N10 relay unit, normally they get bad soldered joint, give it to a tv repair man and ask him to blanket solder the whole board. That should solve it.

I belive that its the same as the 140 and 124 of the same year, just check the number on it. Sorry don't know who has one.

Some time ago I had a problem with an intermittent delay wipe function. Removed the large relay (under the bonnet behind the fusebox), sprayed the contacts with switch cleaner and it worked fine for a few months, then the fault reappeared. Still thinking about a dirty or slack connection, being intermittent, I took it out again but this time used a small pair of pliers and SLIGHTLY bent all of the pins in the hope they would make better contact in their sockets when replaced (talking MINISCULE amount of bending mind you!). I don't know whether it was this, more contact cleaner spray, simply the act of moving the relay or simply coincidence - I don't care - but it has been faultless now for over a year! Oh, and since then my 'tilt' sunroof now functions, but this is probably coincidence!
