Does anybody know if the windscreen washer jets on the 98' E240 Elegance is heated. If so, how are they activated?

No they are not. The water bottle is heated by engine coolant.
My washer jets froze last week, just like yours probably did. Hence the qusetion.

They must be broken then if they managed to freeze dieselman ....

The jets and the mirrors come on automatically for 10 min when the ignition is in position 2 and the outside temp is below 8 degrees.

There was a factory option for about a hundred squids to have the bottle heated too , but , that pointless ... if you make the solution strong enough , it will not freeze.

My jets heat up because the whole bonnet is frozen bar the jets which are a nice moist black colour ....

This is the case on my W202 c240 elegance anyway ... as far as im aware it was standard througut the range at the time

as I said earlier they ARE heated.

the washer jets will freeze because

" it is just something one can't prevent from happening...one can heat up the complete system but at a certain point water has to come out...and that is exactly where drops might freeze...." - MBenzNL

so let me re-iterate, the washer jets are heated! the optional bottle warmer kit is available but if you use a proper screen wash it is less likely to freeze the bottle.

oh if that doesn't work buy the illuminated ones ROFL.

I checked the jets. They are heated and the bottle is not. OOps!.

Mine have never frozen before or since, and the weather wasn't particularly cold, but it was misty. Maybe it wasn't cold enough to bring on the heater, especially as the car is garaged, but was cold enough when driving to freeze the jets. I will keep an eye on this.
