Our W124 E220 has developed a problem with the windscreen washer jets. Lately, the pressure is not strong enough to send the jet of water more then about 1/3 of the way up the screen, which was a problem today as I drove the entire length of a very wet and dirty M4.

Has anyone had a problem with this before ?
Should I look at the pump or the nozzles first ?

Thanks,

Larry

On all those that I have seen the pumps either work or they do not, that leaves the nozzels. Make sure the the pipes are not leaking where they push on to the nozzels (very common)

First check that the jets are clear by probing with a length of fine wire or a sewing needle ,if no improvement take out the pump and check that the inlet is not blocked; it's surprising how much sludge can build up in the bottom of washer container. Geo.

Finally got to check this this morning and the pipes had come away from the nozzles under the bonnet. Easy fix, but surprised they had come loose given how tight they push on there.

One other thing to mention is the reservoir bottle, depending on what has been used you can get a build up of 'gunk' in the bottom. This then restricts the water flow. Stick the hosepipe in the bottom and put it on full blast to clear it all out (assuming you don't have hosepipe ban):D
