perhaps vacuum is holding the rest of the water in the container.

The containers do break and you will find rust underneath so need to attend to it pronto

water follows the path of least resistance hence it pooring out the bottom its might be it has a fracture half way up

Agree with roofless, you don’t say what car you have but if it is a W202 like mine then take the windshield bottle out of the car and hold it up to the sunlight or put a light inside the bottle and you will see some very thin sections of the walls of the bottle, this is as a result of a manufacturing fault when the bottle was blow molded incorrectly.

The solution I used was to paint the inside with white car paint around the thin sections, where it leaked, make sure the bottle is completely dry first, The bottle is made from some kind of polly? plastic, the type that will not agree with mastic or super glue and is difficult to get anything to stick to it.

No Piper, mine is a C180, it doesn’t have a heater in it, I was guessing you might have the same car as mine,
It would be best to remove the bottle from the car, plug the existing holes for the pump etc and fill with water to check for leaks. Depending on what type of plastic it is made of, it might be best to do any repair from the inside rather than the outside.

I don’t know how your heater is fitted to the bottle but you need to remove the bottle from the car to examine it properly but if you can do that without removing the heater then so much the better.

If the washer bottle heater is electrical it is normally built into the cap.
