Martin i purchased a Monsoon fully water proof 8 years ago and this November it failed to hold out water .So i purchased another one just the same . i put cotton sheets on the car before the Monsoon cover but its fleece type material inside. And for winter you dont want a breathable cover . Notice mirror poxkets without them the cover lifts up as it covers them ..and includes 4 air vents . DSC06831.JPG

I'm afraid that cotton sheets hold moisture from condensation and with those damp against the paint there is a risk of microblistering.

Breathability is important all year round as it allows moisture to escape, and whilst these cover have vents, they are only effective for about a foot around them. Seeing the location of them, they'll have no effect on the roof, bootlid or bonnet, the areas mostly likely to get wet.

It'd be better to have a purposefully designed breathable cover, accepting that the car will get wet at some times, but there will be no long term danger to it from that. The best option is a cover that is of course both waterproof and breathable - like these - our best seller: https://www.carcovershop.co.uk/Car-Waterproof-Breathable-Covers.asp

The Monsoon covers are around £200 yet only 1 dimensional care, ours with both desirable features £230-250 for most MB models.

Now proof is in the ownership ..we talked about this before . After 8 years of me uesing the old Monsoon car cover my paint is still like new thats why i purchased my second Monsoon car cover .. Cotton breathes thats the reason i use them ,,,but its cold in bed at night haha . Old cover on the left and the new one on the right that i purchased last month .If you buy any type of cover do check to see that it has wing mirror pockets in it ..Those without pockets- the cover rides up like a tit on an hay rick .And must have air vents ,,dont let anyone talk you out of these items ..

I bow to your greater knowledge of having owned 2 car covers in 8 years against my experience of using and selling covers for 20...

Air vents are useless, mirror pockets are nullified by having proper straps. And if mirrors fold in, mirror pockets are irrelevant. Over and out.

No the cover is fully fitted for theMercedes W124 saloon as the mirrors wont move in ..they need fitted pockets ,, The Monsoon cover has straps 2x and room to put one more on if need be .If it had been of poor quality i would never have bought another one now would i . And as for the price of the Monson it would be half the price of yours would it not ?...

I purchased one (breathable outdoor) from Morethan polish for my newly acquired SL500. Have had it for about a month and cannot fault it. I know it is early days but I am very pleased with it. I am getting a cheaper one from Ebay for the s211 and would be expecting to replace that one on a yearly ‘ every 2 years. Whereas the SL one hope it lasts for at least 5.
cheers

I just realised I must have purchased the cover for my Supra from you donkeys years ago as it has your logo on the cover bag.

Can’t remember what model I bought but I think it was around £180 or so back then as I did think I need my head checking paying that sort.

I thought tailored meant it would fit it 100% as in 100% tailored but, it was roughly the right size. It held up for a few winters but I got sick of fine dust creeping in dusty gusty weather.

It’s been in the bag again for several years and I sold it along with other supra parts

Just to be sure DSK that you're referring to a Monsoon cover as we dont have logos on our cover bags

MTP do you think it is possible for fine dust to get through the breathable car cover ? This would not happen if it is fully water proof .

The breathable membrane is so fine that its designed to stop water falling with considerable force from 10,000ft, so dust floating about shouldnt go through a decent breathable cover.

The value of breathability over sealed/waterproof only fabrics is generally accepted within the car protection industry.

It was a grey bag with red lettering from memory. I think it said car covers or, car cover shop on it.

Well I'm glad thats totally clear then - our bags are plain, no lettering, so it wasn't one of our covers.
