Hi chaps
Winter tyres!! What's the best make and place to buy? I live in the North West on border the Scotland.
With my new jobs starting Monday and my new route will be a little slippy in winter I'm going to invest. My current tyres are 255 35s rear and 245 40 front.
thanks :D

I’ve Mercedes spec Pirelli’s for mine that were £560 for 4 including new alloys from mytyres

I use crossclimates by Michelin from Costco it does give Bambi some grip in slippy stuff.

I wish I could get crossclimate in my sizes.. 245 front and 275 rear..

Google is your best friend.

Also a decision you might want to think about is a separate set of wheels and tyres or all seasons to have just one set..

Crossclimate by Michelin or All Season tyres are good for most of UK unless you live in or travel or heavy snow fall parts of Scotland.

I live down south and have used winter tires intermittently.

Shame you're so far away, I have a lovely undamaged (almost as new condition) set of staggered 16" alloys I'd be happy to sell, they have winter tyres on but although almost full tread, manufacture date is 8 or more years ago so would need replacing - and I can't pack them for shipping so they'd need collecting from near J9 M20!

Used to have a C63...
Used Dunlop Wintersport 3D on my C63, they were good.

Have also used Nokian previously, (the WR A3 All Season Plus), and they were superb.

Used Avon Ice Touring ST on the CLSand was very pleased with those but doubt they'll be available in your size!

I’ve “recently”used
Dunlop Wintersport 3D
Vredestein Wintrac extreme
Uniroyal MS Plus 77
From these 3 I’d put the Vredestein in front as a tyre which performed well in marginally warmer weather (let’s face it our climate is unpredictable), the Dunlops were fine, the Uniroyals were on my 63 and were fine until about 10oC then they rolled over badly during ‘spirited’ drives (yes I know that’s not what they’re for )
The i8 will be staying put on the drive if I see any snow or extreme ice!

Maybe be cheaper for you to get another set of eBay wheels . Look at your cars manual and work out if you can get a matching set of wheels an inch smaller than your current set of wheels . Your spare wheel size will give a clue .
I bourght a set of 16 inch wheels for the E class with winters for under £250 delivered a few years ago .
16 inch winters are really cheap , compared to the larger sizes .
The CLK has a spare set of steel wheels with all seasons on .
The CLK is normally staggered alloys in the summer , but same size wheels all round in the winter .
I think all my winter tyres are Pirelli at the moment , they were just over £50 each delivered

You should have

front: 235/40R18 95W XL
rear: 255/35R18 94W XL

As standard

Easy to put 235/40 R18 all round on 8x18" ET45 wheels if you just bought a full set of wheels and tyres

Plenty of choice

Rear 255/35 also available if you want to swap tyres over

Did exactly the same with my CLK, 205/55R16 if I remember correctly. Fantastic grip as its a narrow tyre, & cheap to buy.
Sadly my E350 won't take 16" wheels, so I am on 245/45R17. The traction in snow is not as good as the 16" wheels.

I've a set of the Nokian WR C3, fitted new.
I'm not overly impressed with their winter performance and feel the Michelon Agilis do just as well. Much worse though is the feeling that the wheel bearings are shot when they're fitted. This wasn't when new but a few thousand miles in bad it was only swapping back to summers (for diagnosis) that showed me the cause of the excess noise.

I've had Kleber Transalp, harshish ride, track well, but feel all road vibrations.
Kleber Quadraxer, nice ride, good grip, confidence inspiring.

Generally I've enjoyed Goodyear and feel all season are good enough for my purposes. While we get fairly extreme conditions when the white stuff comes more often I can opt to avoid driving when the other ill equiped drivers will block the road anyway (that being lack of good kit or ability).
