Can anybody help me with a wiper problem I have with my 99 C200. The wiper works fine apart from the fact that it parks itself at various parts of the screen.

It is gradualy working it's way from the 2 o'clock position to where it is currently in the 10 o'clock position (it's RHD).

I have considered that this may be an issue with slippage between the motor and the mech but as stated, the wiper performs it's function when operating perfectly fine without fouling the rubber anywhere.

It just seems that the motor is stopping when it thinks it is in the correct place.

Any thoughts ?

For your wiper to change it's park position as you say but otherwise function properly, I would think you have a slack nut on the back of the drivehead or the motor crank.
This link will show how to remove the complete assembly;http://members.lycos.nl/mbenz/windshield_wiper.htm
Let us know how you get on or if you need more help.

That was the problem :D.

Interestingly the car was fitted with a new motor at a cost in excess of £600 six months before we bought it last year (I have the reciept from MB main dealer).

When I got access to the mechanism the nut holding the crank onto the spline was finger tight !.

I was actualy able to tighten the nut without complete removel of the assembly. Once the nuts had been removed I was able to pull the assembly away from the car sufficiently to access it.

Many thanks for the swift response. It turned out to be a dead simple fix, but I wouldn't have attempted it without the info and pics to hand.

Sounds like your were lucky it didn't come apart and wreck itself in the process
Nice work and shame on the lesser mechanic who went before you.
