Hi all

Just looking for some advice, has anyone installed a wireless camera setup as per the attached screenshot.

I've seen on other threads that the camera itself can be used, just curious if the wireless will work.

I have a 63 plate w212 e300 hybrid

Any hints, tips, advice is greatly appreciated

No, but I’ve just bought one for the caravan which connects to a smartphone app to give us full blind spot coverage, and so far it looks mega.

is it not possible to use the COMAND screen? ie screen swaps over to the caravan's camera when reverse is selected with the caravan attached?

Is there a reason why not? Just curious as the ad-hoc wireless connection is just replacing the wiring that has to be run through the car.

With the caravan you could buy a cheap phone or tablet and just use it for the caravan camera

You shouldn't need to run any wiring through the car.

Just connect the camera to the reversing light and then the wireless receiver to power and earth at the front.

I don't think the command screen will get the right signal from the camera to switch over, that's why almost all of these come with a separate screen.

It’s not a reversing camera (although it can do that job). It’s specifically meant for viewing the road directly behind the caravan while we’re driving along.

Is there a reason why not what, sorry?

wireless because I don’t want to run cabling through the caravan.

No fixed screen as the Fun Prevention Officer is glued to her phone while we’re driving usually, so she can access the camera view whenever I ask; it’s an R class and I don’t want to get unqualified people pulling trim out to lay wiring; we have 3 smart device screens in the car at any one time anyway; I didn’t want a fixed screen cluttering up the console.

So far we have trialled it in slow time and I’m really impressed with how good the image quality is. Plus the whole lot needs zero wiring, and zero drilling of the caravan skin as the caravan bracket can be bonded rather than screwed on.

I've toyed with the idea of a reversing/ 'rear view' camera for my caravan. Maybe I'd see what I was about to hit beforehand unlike EmilysMum that told me AFTER I'd caught the gate post .... :coffee:

I bought a Nextbase front 512 camera + rear kit. It's hard wired with everything hidden under the headlining (done by my local Electric Auto Co). It turns itself on with the ignition and gives a good clear front/rear view. When parked, it will activate itself if the car is nudged, which is what I wanted. It wasn't cheap - £165 all in plus a couple of hours fitting.

I was surprised to see it's 18 months old now - I bought it in Nov 2018 and it was all sorted and fitted by early December. I had an installation problem - the front-to-rear USB cable was faulty. Nextbase were very helpful and replaced it within 24 hours of my phoning them (and problem solved). Thankfully, it hasn't been used in anger but especially after reading one or two horror stories on here, just knowing it's there is quite satisfying.

Nowadays I often forget it's there until SWMBO talks about something we might have seen or happened on our journey so then I can play back remarkably quickly. The quality of a restored video file is surprisingly good. It's quite amusing to see something come up behind you then pass and then give you a rear view especially if they're a bit moronic!
