Dear Members

i have a 2001 ml320 which i bought in january 2005 (UK) with a 12 month used merc warrenty. it has developed a problem with the sensors for ESP,BAS & ABS. i was driving at 70 mph when these alarms came on and the hand brake alarm also can on but the hand brake actully came on. the car did not come to an abbrupted stop but slowed the car down. i'm told by merc dealer that the wiring loom that is operates these sensors has been rubbing against the chassis and is shorting out the system.they tell me that it is not covered on the warrenty, they want 3k to repair. has any one had the same problem? should this happen or is it a recall? if anyone has any information i would be greatfull. do i have any legel rights to get them to repair as i was told that this vehicle was a merc approved vehicle when i bought it. i do not want to get into costly legel battles, i just want the problem put right.

regards

If they cannot do this change to a different dealer and contact customer services.

This one must be the joke of the year
There is no recall for this car up to Oct 2005 and there are no recorded faults of this nature, and that includes wires shorting to chassis .2 wires at the most. This would not damage the ABS system, or the BAS/ESP that takes its info from this ABS part..

Re the warrenty, The dealer cant pick and choose some parts and exclude them. Verbal words do count in a contract or sale, unless the warrenty excludes the eletrics
Fault codes would have been stored, they can be read and erased.

Was it an MB dealer.

The warranty line sounds very odd to me. Unless they have changed the rules dramatically, I have never had anything so much as questioned on a Merc used warranty, from water pumps to diff seals to steering racks, its always been done without question. I am aware thtings change at 100k - did it have 100k on the clock when you bought it? Aside from that, in my view if it isn't wear and tear, and this isn't, it's covered.
To quote their web site,
"This is one of the most comprehensive used car warranties available" - better be- I've just paid £700 for an extra 12 months.

What to do

Have the car fixed by an independent garage and carry on driving it. It's either that, or pay £1600, or start a long battle with MB. I know which I'd do

Up date on my wiring loom problem, YOU NEED TO READ THIS !!!!!!!!

i took my car to an independent merc specialist for a report on my wiring loom problem as i didn't want to pay LANCASTER MERCEDES of Leigh-on-Sea Essex 3,000 pounds for repairs that they told me i needed. After complaining to Merc head office in Germany and in the UK, the dealership phoned me to say Merc as a good will gesture would pay towards the repairs. But i must still pay 1,600 pounds towards the cost. My independent specialist told me that the cost of the repairs would be 72.50 pounds incl VAT and they could do the job while i wait. I have reported the dealership to trading standards who are very helpfull, they are refering the case and investigating the dealership for criminal intent. The repairs were carried out in a fashion acceptable to Mercedes and by qualified Merc mechanic's. People beware of this dealership, a couple of hundred quid over the top is the norm but 1,500 pounds is criminal.

If anyone is going after Merc for criminal intent and trading standards I woiuld be happy to give thme some support. I am aware of more than a few outright frauds perpetrated by MB dealers.

HI ML320

Glad you got it sorted. I assume that it was the speed signal was shorted to chassis and a simple loom repair was the fix please inform.

I am dissapointed that television claims there are no reported faults of short to earth on this model as I have done at least five myself the first of which was reported to MBUK PCTAC(passenger car tec assistance center). I would like to know his source

PS only one wire to speed sensor plus sheild

The ign switch is not a recorded fault for a 129, but I now know of 11 sinse Nov 05. Not a problem Say MB
I have the same problem in other fields where a manufacture states not a problem, when the forums show other wise, and little me has fixed 10
