hi maybe i am stressing unnessesarily but the w124 200te i just bought is leaking coolant, the coolant light came on so i bought some and put it in
was ok for a day then on again, on opening the hood i notice that there was a liquid on the belts and surrounding area which i believe to be coolant .

based on what i have read on this forum i quickly checked the oil for coolant and the coolant for oil and nothing. i am unable to find the leak .i need some advice on how to determine the area that is leaking or just generally what to do. i also need an indy garage around barnet.

sorry about the whining folks but i have entered panick mode, i really want to enjoy this car as it is my first merc.

Firms like Part Co and air con companies sell a dye that you put into the water, you put this in and watch and you will see instantly where the leak is.
Water pumps are a prime source for leaks.

Sounds like it could be a leaking water pump rather than a head gasket problem if it's getting onto the belts..... That's what mine did (190e 2.6, M103 engine).

As malcolm says it is very likely the water pump if there is liquid on the belts and surrounding area. Not expensive to replace ,around £50 for the pump from the likes of Eurocarparts and an hour or so to fit. Not a specialist job so any garage should do the job fairly readily.
