Hi there. Nah I was told that there was a portion of 2011 amg's that were affected. There was an engine serial number thrown around on the other forum... if your engine number of lower then that serial it was affected, some 2011s were included unfortunately

Was there a recall on the head bolt issue? If there was then you could ask MB.

MB never acknowledged or recalled these engines for this issue.

I was told by my main dealer head mechanic ( who is brilliant ) the safe engine nos for CL 63s must be engine no ending greater than 60658.
He did advise me to avoid any prior to that, even if they had been recalled. He said they only fixed the broken ones!

I.e. possible slight damage before discovered.
Sadly there are many even quite late ones effected.

Very sad as imo the ultimate deep, deep, deep AMG roar ...
never surpassed ... biggest Pots!

^ There is an indy, on here, that has reported the issue with later engines than 060658.
Also, camshaft/lifter wear seems prevalent on all engines, see Tasos Moscatos on YouTube

Your engine number is 156985 60 067814 and is in the batch of engines where the headbolts have been updated.
Relax.

If you are interested, here is the full datacard for your E63 so you can see what was fitted at build.

Thanks for the reply! My Partner has just purchased an e63 2010 she hasn’t had any issues as of yet, to avoid issues can we just replace the head bolts to the updated ones? Or would their be more work required?
Sorry for the silly questions

Get in touch with Acid at MSL Performance in Birmingham. He has replaced these bolts on a few M156 engines and can talk you through the procedure and rough cost. I think he has managed to remove one bolt at a time and replace them with updated ones without the need for a new head gaskets thus saving a lot on labour and parts.

He may well advise that as the car is now 11 years old any corrosion and failure would have happened by now and to leave well alone.

Although, IMO if they haven't gone by now, and the mileage is not very very low, then they are unlikely to be an issue.
