Hi all, newbie / new to MB.
I just aquired my first Mercedes, an '86 230E

I need to change the waterpump & timing chain before I use the car.
Looking on the www. I am of the impression that it is a W124 model but all the listing I can find starts with the 260E, none of the cd/r manuals on ebay list the 230E.
Could someone point me in the direction of a manual in the UK.
Thanks in anticipation

Thanks for the reply Jim,
I nipped down to Halfords before they closed... had it in stock but I couldnt force myself to buy it ( last time I bought one of those 'new format' Haynes manuals I found the wiring diagrams to be incorrect).

Have to be very careful with Haynes' books, they carry lots of errors. Hasn't been a decent workshop manual IMO publicly available since 'Pitmans' and, more recently 'Autobooks' stopped publishing.

most of the disks for sale on eBay are the American ones so they won't cover the 230 engine.

If you see somebody clearly advertising "European" disks then it will cover your engine.

The Haynes manual is a little vague but it's better than nothing and will cover the jobs you are looking at

I bit the bullet & bought a Haynes today... negotiated the price & got it for £12.50 from a motor factors rather than paying £15.99 at Halfords.
The info related to timing chain & waterpump replacement are perfectly adequate as andy k said they would be.
