Money isn't culture (except in the US).

Ah, but I wasn't on about culture per se. That's just the Borg bit. Replace it with "State"- your State will adapt to service our currency... ;)

But you never said state!
The US just tempt us with other stuff to dilute our culture - Big Macs, Coca Cola etc

Sure. That isn't a conscious political- economic act though is it? President Kennedy didn't order the Levi Jeans Corp or Ronald McDonald Inc. to invade European countries and ply their wares... what happened was that they became available through favourable trade alliances with the Hegemon that those countries support/ supported.

Sadly this is true. We have had more stability in Europe and the West over the past 50-60 years than ever before but the return to the internecine political thinking of the previous century does seem to be becoming more prevalent. I just hope it doesn't have a negative effect on the stability and prosperity we've enjoyed.

Following Craig-XVIII's logic this self interest would be reducible to the richest individuals in the land, people like Aaron Banks. Fortunately this is not so as we have many different trains of thought and of politics in the UK, plus Aaron only had a majority on one day only. We live in a pluralistic society, the type of one dimensional thinking being espoused here resembles fascism.

No, the logic you're following does not scale downwards. What is good or right for an individual may not be so for a state. What a state can do on the international scene an individual could not hope to, due to the prevailing laws.

The rise of Fascism and its initial successes are however described by Bandwaggoning, which is mentioned in that essay.

Keep on going and you'll meet Godwin's Law.

It's your logic of national self interest that is being reduced to its lowest common denominator. It's enormously problematic for you though in the age of the multinational corporation and the concentration of wealth in ever smaller numbers of wealthy individuals. Particularly so when its easy to bribe or simply purchase politicians...national self interest whatever that is, simply disappears being replaced by that of the puppeteer with the most money. This thread has every possibility of being as tedious as most of your threads with their long winded quotes from anonymous sources

Hello Pot, this is Kettle, send message, over.

The source is a chap named Stuart Slade, a political analyst that I know. I've quoted him before usually because a) he makes sense, and b) he's been proven right so many times he has the industry nickname of "Seer Stuart".

The "logic" that you refer to is one of a number of schools of thought of political science. The whole multinational corporation thing you refer to is nothing new; India was governed for a century by the HEIC as one example. Did it affect politics? Yes. Did politics affect it? Just a little. The point is that these are various ways of viewing how the world works, how large groups of people at nation- state level interact. The politics of those people don't come into it.

If you don't wish to participate constructively, please bore off. Otherwise you're welcome to post your very occasionally interesting points.
