It would have been better if he kept it as the post van,
probably could have made a few bob in appearance money and turning up to childrens parties dressed as postman pat.

Cool. but two questions from my dullard side, is it road legal with that bug key spinning on the back and also, i really dont fancy meeting a van at a t junction in that. it would come worst off than a smart car!

but as i said, that is actually really cool, although i agree, keeping it as a post van would have been much cooler.

you can have a go-cart road legal nowadays, that would be more suicidal than postman pats van as you would be so low that no one would see you, then there is the motorised road legal garden shed, 3 piece suite and skip- lol.

would not like to have an accident with that skip. Imagine how you could explain that on the insurance claim!!!

I was proceeding along A road when this skip stopped/pulled out in front of me. I could not avoid it and hit it. The driver got out ....

Mind you, I wondered how could that microvan pass DOT certification to be roadworthy with all the regulation/type approval/etc. If you have a car that has never been registered (e.g. MGB, Mini, E-Type) then it could never be road legal due to having to pass stringent rules on lights/bumpers/safety features (airbags) as I understand it.

If you have an old car that has never been road registered it does not need any vosa type test as the model has aready been homologated, therefore is already road legal.
Dvla even have a load of age related plates held back for the many thousands of old vehicles that have still to be road registered (shock)
A manufacturer will make a new car and submit it for type approval,(homologation) once passed all the rest are automatically road legal without testing as long as they are the same.
when you build a kit car or make a vehicle never intended for road use road legal then it is submitted for a msva or sva (motorcycle /single vehicle approval) to a vosa testing station, this basically checks the vehicle is of a satisfactory engineered construction for road use. It does not need lights if it is only to be used in daylight.
Once passed it can then go for a mot and away you go.
Many vehicles carry exemptions from certain points of testing, a quad does not need emissions testing,an enduro bike does not need mirrors, indicators or even lighting, both have no requirement for a number plate light but the police will then have you for that.
the more you look into this the more you find that vosa, mot and police all seem to be working out of a different rule book so what is fine for one is not for the other.
the icing on the cake is what the euro law says as that over rules the uk requirements so a failure on a micro car mot test for not having side repeater lights is not a requirement for euro law, therefore not needed....
My quad (yamaha) has huge warning plates saying "not for road use" and "no passenger" yet is road legal and can legally carry a passenger ?
