I went to have my car tracking done today (E320, 2003) at a garage and I have been informed that my front ball joints are badly worn. Should they be worn after 30K and should the dealer replace them under the warranty?

I have never heard of ball joints worn at 30k, that's almost impossible.

where did you have the tracking done? was it a quick fit type garage - if so get a 2nd opinion.

they told me to change front shocks that were less than a week old, when I onlywanted them to change a pivot bearing... some of those guys are VERY cheeky.

Hi,

I had my drop link bushes replaced at 60k, as my car was making a knocking noise over rough surfaces. Different garages called it different things, Wishbone bushes...Track rod bushes..... etc, I am not technical so have no idea. All I know is that the Indie I used changed the rubbers and the car is perfect!!!!

I have been hearing a rattle from the suspension when driving. The garage was a general independent and they were quite sure the lower joints had gone. I will find out in a couple of days as its booked in to the dealer.

Drop links are the likely cause and anytime from 25k on they will go. They are cheap and easy to replace. The ball joints would not be gone, or should not be.

I took the car to the dealer. They said the lower ball joints had gone and replaced them. The mechanic said it was common for the joints to go on the E class.

211 ball joint

HI

yes 30k is common for e class (211) ball joints, when I have questioned MB on this they say ball joint is service item. If the car is still in warrenty it is certanly down to MB if it is outside the warrenty period the chance of getting a good will claim is very slim

Ball joints should not be going at 30k. I would try and get it done under warrenty.
