I've just renewed my membership - and instead of getting a membership card in the post, Catherine Barlow from "Membership Services" sent me a letter enclosing a non-sticky club advert for my windscreen, and a requiurement to type in the world's longest web link to something called the "Web Lounge" - using something I hadn't seen before called an "ENG" number instead of a membership number. However - having done all that, the log-in screen just shows a large box with "Privacy Statement " right at the bottom - with no obvious way of scrolling it out of the way. Wasted half an hour and gave up.
Not slick, not clever and not funny.
Can I just have a menmbership card please ?
(Although I use and value these forums, some of us old codgers don't want to spend our time ferreting around in obscure bits of the web =- especially when they don't work!)

Have you got the right MB Club? Catherine Barlow works (or did work) for the Official MB Club, not this one. Could be that's she's changed jobs though?

I'm thinking of re joining and would like to know if I would get a membership card like the one I had last time e.g. hard copy.

Was indeed the wrong club. This one is much better, although the opposition is M-B affiliated. This one has more focus on everyday cars rather than the M-B exotoca.
To get over the declining ,e,bership figures, they've decided to save money by havong a complicated electronic membershhip card which sits on your smartphone (whatever one of those is...) and increase the annual membership by a LOT. I didn't renew.

Gave up on them a couple of years ago, fed up of meetings being organised during the working week, being sneered at because my car wasn’t either new or extremely old and valuable. Final straw was being looked at like something they find on the soles of their shoes because I do all my own work and don’t use the dealership for every little thing.

Gazette was going downhill, and the organisation was ripping itself to shreds as well, it was time to stop sending them money.

You can still get discount at MB Grangemouth and MB Newcastle - both do online parts - just mention us - MBOA :)

Aye, it's a club run by toffs exclusively for toffs.
Not really my experience. I met many really great friendly people in that club and there were members with a huge amount of knowledge on particular models. The ruling elite were chucked out at an AGM but the forum was and probably still is full of trolls. The magazine concentrated on the social aspect rather than technical issues and the classic magazine was full of pretentious cobblers. Local area events were also about social contact. Wasn't really my thing so I didn't renew either. But I can see why some enjoy that club.

That club died when enthusiasts like Ron Cushway and Roger Edwards passed away. I remember the Gazette being an A5 blue-covered magazine full of technical articles. Unfortunately, it morphed into an A4 lifestyle magazine created by the new "ruling elite" :(
