This is the best way, or alternatively pull the lamp out of the back and have a look…Easy way to tell is by looking at the back/top of the headlight cluster, if they are xenon they will have a warning about electrocution on then. Other quick way would be to post a picture up of what you have, we should be able to tell you pretty quickly

Ballasts are replaceable and don’t need coding.Can you replace just the ballast module, or does it need to be the whole unit?

That’s your problem… you’ve non halogen lamps fitted to halogen units. The light source won’t be in the correct position for the reflector so giving a poor pattern - as well as blinding other road users and being illegal to boot…View attachment 78044 These are the bulbs that are fitted
