Hi,

just been out cleaning the engine bay on the new S Class I just bought and under the bonnet, on the front xmember above the headlamps on either side are High Voltage warning labels for Xenon lamps, but the car has standard lamps.

Question is, could the car have had xenons when built but had them replaced at some stage? I have checked on the Russian site but it doesn't mention them. Would it if the car had them on from being built?

Thanks

Baz

has the car ever had any accident damage repaired? could it be that a replacement panel has been fitted, perhaps a second hand one?

If its just plain xenons like mine dipped beams are xenons and high beams are halogen bulbs maybe this is why?

His car has standard lamps which means either halogen reflectors <2003 or halogen projectors 2003>. Xenons are an extra option. It could a be 1999-2005 model ??

He does not say if he entered his VIN on the Russian site, he may have just looked at the year and model ( S320 CDI)

Just checked his car is 2004 Facelift S Class 320L CDI, which means Halogen Projector headlamps as standard. If XENONS were previously installed the wiring will be different. It does seem odd that High Voltage warning labels for Xenon lamps are stuck on.

If the car has a headlight level control wheel next to the headlight switch, it doesnt have zenons. Also if it has zenons, it's a legal requirement to have headlight washers.

Hi,

Yes it is a 54 plate S Class but it has no record of any damage and doesn't look like any of the panels aren't originals. Here are a few pics... sorry about the lack of focus....!

Baz

Just to add, I have checked the Russian site and no mention of Xenons on the list. (What would be the code number for Xenons?)

Also, the car doesn't have a little wheel next to the switch (neither did the previous car and that had standard lamps too) and it does have headlamp washers!

The car is a 54 plate 320 CDI LWB

Thanks again

Sounds to me like you've got zenons. Park up to a wall & switch dipped beam on & watch the pattern. If the lights appear to raise slightly just as they come on, then you have zenons. Of course, you could always just take the bulb out & see.........

If you have XENONS the difference between them and projectors is literally night and day. Xenons take 10 secs to achieve full brilliance and you cant flash your headlights if you have BI xenons

613 lamp unit, asymmetrical, l.h. traffic (с 01.02.1963) = Projector Headlights

What exactly is the wiring difference? It appears to have the same connector on the back as a xenon unit, but the vertical socket doesn't have any pins in so I guess they are standard lamps. I assume the vertical socket is for the autolevelling, but is the wiring the same for the bulbs? (main beam, didpped beam etc?

Thanks

I cannot comment on them all,,the Xenon lamp do have the controller built in,,and that is where the oblong plug fits
