year 2000 c200 camshaft position sensor fault

Just had my c200 petrol converted to gas when i got it back the technician told me i had a fault that would not clear when they had looked at the fault codes
how much for a none merc brand sensor

ps engine seems to be running fine?
ps i have been running a generic none merc maf for over a year
so no bull about only using merc parts

My Merc has been running on same MAF for 13 years and 165,000 miles.

It's a genuine Merc part number.

how many miles a year do you do and when do you think the money spent on conversion will be paid back by fuel consumption?????????

Not sure its running on its second tank. the car has done 67,000.
It had a few bugs when it was first done but all sorted now.

So i will take some stats over the next few weeks! A client of mine had his e220 done a few months back he was well happy.
He worth a few bob and convinced me to get it converted.
I need to do a little motor way driving as well. I am going to the river eden in the next month which is a good 200mile round trip almost all motorway so i should se what it will do at a steady 70.
I use it for work as a district nurse so I do a fair bit of town milage I expect to break even after 10,000 miles i get paid by the mile and my allowance hadnt gone up in 7 years.
. £1300 for the conversion fitted.
I am sure if you have access to ramp and a good scanner a pc u could diy for about £600 for a four cylinder.

Plus if the tanker drivers go on strike again i can still fill up or fill both tanks!
the car is running great.

the genune merc maf only lasted 56,000 miles on my car way prior to fitting the lpg.
plus the chap who supplied the maf said its was made at the same plant in china just didnt have the merc/bosh stamp on it. also has two year warrenty or 60,000 miles for less than £60.00
not rocket science!
anyway does anyone know a cam sensor supplier!!!!

the cam sensor is prob bosch, find a bosch stockists, give them a tinkle with your reg and see how much,

All I can say is you're one of the rare lucky ones. We get loads of people on here buying after market Mafs and having no end of trouble which is why we recommend to steer clear. Most re crap - though glad to hear yours isn't.
We're more than happy if there is a good after market supplier - we're not blindly allied to the dealer's parts counter!

good point, but i as a garage owner have had many customers state their car is running 100% perfect, we road test before and after service and on these so called 100% running cars i have found loads with airmass faults but customer think its fine, just a point,
lots of peoples 100% fine are certainly not mine!

i agree with the ****e maf/airmass, id steer clear, as every type we have tried have had problems, some very minor faults, like flatspot low down etc, all of which 90% of owners would not note, but we as experienced mercedes trained tend to notice,

I agree some parts can be crap. I will try and dig out my mafs supplier and post a link. I will have the invoice as I still have another 12 month warrenty on it.
Also when mapping the engine pre and post fitting the fuel trims were fine on petrol imo the maf was doing its job so i may be one of the lucky ones. I do have a very tiny flat spot (a microsecond) when i pull off but its nothing i cant live with especially driving an auto. So u may have a good point mb tech!
The gas ecu needed mapping a couple of times.
The only thing that i find crap is the lpg fuel gauge. Tiny leds that show four levels and reserve not very accurate.


When my maf was going the car drove like a hurst! No guts. not that my c200 elegance auto is a sports car!!!
I have been told one crude way of finding out if its the maf is to disconect the maf and floor the car on an open road. If it eventually picks up and runs at well at higher speeds with your foot down then it could be the maf.
as a faulty maf will restrict fuel flow.
This crude diagnostic worked on vectra estate i once owned I didnt try it on the c200 just new from the my experiance with the vectra

But the best way is get it on omni scanner or take it to a tech for diagnostics.

Get the part number from the old sensor. Then ring up Euro car parts and see if they stock them.

Throw that maf you have away. You WILL be using more fuel with it. I have done a back to back test with cheap copy and a genuine Bosch maf. The difference is substantial.

its the sensor at the side pal, the front one is an actuator/magnet
