I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS THAT I COULD DO WITH SOME HELP PLEASE.

(Q1) I have a buzzing noise coming from under the Gear Stick, The car does NOT jump out of gear and drives fine. Sounds as if it needs oil. The noise is a little like a constand ticking right under the gear stick.

(Q2) Do I need to change the Gear Box Oil or is this a sealed unit

(Q3) Help, Help , Help, just dont know what to do.

Thanks
Steve

Sounds like the gear linkage has worn and bushes could do with being replaced.
Or the exhaust heat sheild is loose and buzzing with engine vibration.

I read an article once that mentioned a ticking noise caused by the propshaft catching a piece of the aluminium heat shield under the car.I have a six speed manual and people tell me they can hear a ticking from that region,me being a bit mutton I can't hear it.

I have been through everything and nothing listed up to 07 on this. There is only one mod for the gear shift but this does not apply to your cars.

Can Collechele or Blackc55 come up with anything.

Have seen the handbrake cable pull from its clips and bounce up and down on the prop but thats not a ticking sound, more like a light knocking noise, does the sound change with speed???

The ticking does increase with speed, but is quite intermitant. You dont hear it at higher cruising speed, its more when your driving up throught the gears.

The strange thing is that when you go round round'a'bouts it does seem to get worse, but not every time, it also sounds louder when you sit in the passenger seat.

It does give the impression of something has come loose and flicking against something but as I ve never had the gearbox out I dont really know what it could be. It sounds a bit like when you put a piece of card through the spokes of your push bike to make it sound like a motor bike!

Thanks again for any help.

Gearbox Noise

Drive along at a constant speed, push in clutch, if noise reduces in speed then it is the gearbox, if the noise remains constant then its in the drive train, propshaft touching something maybe. But at least using this method you will be reducing the possibilities.
If it was due to the lack of oil in the gearbox it should be making noises at idle, then when you push in the clutch the noises should stop.

Hope this helps.

Hi

1000 apologies if I'm going about this the wrong way I'm new to the forum so still learning. Did you resolve this problem with your gear box? From reading your description it would appear I have exactly the same problem now which I'm desperate to get repaired. Any help advice would be welcome.
