"You CANNOT buy a dipstick"

Hello..
I just thought I would phone my local MB dealership to order a ATF dipstick tool..
The Parts manager flatly refused to order one and even told me it was a workshop only tool.
God they are soo precious about what we are allowed to own..

Who do I think I am and what gives me the right to assume I am allowed to go under the bonnet..
Now go away and behave yourself !!!

Sorry MB.. I promise not to do this again..

I have to write out I must not open the bonnet without written permission 500 times !!

Try other dealers, some sell them, others are a bit silly like yours.

Been up many times, and I am sure that this would not stand up in court if challenged, it comes under the right to repair laws passed some 3 years ago

I bought mine from UK ebay, 3 days to deliver, but easily made up with curtain wire, just need to measure the depth of the oil. Does anyone know if ALL of the auto boxes are the same for dipping? I would hate to tell someone its between 53 and 64mm deep if its only certain range ?

For all of the cars that use the 722.6 box, they are all the same, and those measurements sound fine

I guess it may be even cheaper to the UK for shipping. It's the same one I bought some time back and works a treat.

You can use a piece of the plastic coated curtain wire (the hollow spiraled stuff)- cut away the outer plastic sheath for the first 100mm then file two sets of notches into it, the lower one for "cold" and the upper one for "hot"

The dimensions from the tip are about 10mm and 55mm - but you would be better asking one of the chaps with one to measure it for you - mine was copied by a friend with an MB original.

Mine works perfectly and it saved me a load of hassle and about £35!!

That was normal on the 772.345 box but not on the 722.6 box
