Well if it looks the same and smells the same, and one cannot measure the effectiveness, I'd suggest that the difference is due to profit margins!

Archoil ==> Snakeoil? ;)

I will give it a little more than 5 miles to see any difference :)

The car felt a little rough on idle for the last few weeks so maybe a clean was needed

I found it smoothed out the running on my C350 (the predecessor) and my E250 I used this stuff and it seemed to help.

But once the engine is clean it's clean. Assuming you're not putting rubbish fuel into the car then you shouldn't need to use it again.

Once a quarter as preventive maintenance though won't do any harm and is something I used to do. Although once every 6mths.

Or every half and half (like being in a Scottish pub!)

Or a Welsh pub eating Chili Con Carne :p

Question though:

If I used Wynne EGR cleaner and bearing in mind you have to remove the air filter to spray it in, would I have to remove both filters and alternate the spray?

^ last time I did it was on a Galaxy- undid the pipe from the filter box and sprayed it straight in- only one box...it all ends in the same place so I can't see why you'd need to do two?

This was my thought but like to clarify, my mechanic says it can be pointless though as the car does do long runs every so often

On the 350 diesel ,isn't the Egr easily accessible at the passenger bulkhead end of the engine , a manual removal of the egr and spray clean is easy if it is .

Craig, what about BG44K?

I've been adding it to my tank about twice a year, a few days before MOT and then about six months later ...
Is it actually any good or ... ?

I do run through a full tank of Shell V-Power (formerly V+ Nitro) every few months, which I suspect does more to clean the cobwebs, than the can of BG44K o_O ha-ha

Indeed Jon, if the car is getting a good hot run daily or every other day it's unlikely to need it- our Galaxy did only 4K a year so...

Went and sorted the wheels, left at 11.00 got back at 7.00pm
I let them do a local repair on the 2 recesses, and remove the paint on all the conical bolt surfaces on all four ... as insisted by mercedes and WIM. Rather than do a full refurb. ( they offerred to ) but I just want it over.
Very very stressful day. Seeing the car go up on one side, then jacked up the third wheel, then the fouth that meant the pad on the 2nd suddenly has a 4" gap of air, thankfully as he raises the opposite side it seats back on the pad, but only just and ... more by luck than judgement as he doesnt look let alone check.

I was just waiting for them to drop it!
Anyway they have agreed to Pay the £638 to repair the hub directly to Mercedes.
They did tap the hub, so one can put a new bolt into it to get me home ( now possible with the paint cleaned out of the hole) . But its a quite bit more "sloppy".

It only does a 10 mile each way commute but there is a Manchester run every month as well so that does it the world of good

Now I admit to having no experience in this area, so I asked one of the powertrain fuel system guys about cleaning additives. His reply was, "They're all almost identical in makeup. They don't do anything that Euro grade fuel doesn't. At the best they might do something, at the worst they won't do any harm."

Soooo, my highly cynical eye is categorising them as snake- oiley.
