This is an odd one, but if I pull back on the beam it lights up the sky rather well. But if I put it forward to the "auto" option, I get the display on the dash but the lights don't go to full beam? What am I doing wrong?

C300 Estate, hybrid. Um, I have pushed the switch forward to put the Auto Beam on yes and it puts up the Auto Beam on the dash - is there anything in the settings I also need to adjust?

It needs to meet certain conditions before turning on main beam, I hate the system, it’s too slow or needs to be too dark before it switches on etc etc. I always switch it off.

Does that mean I can switch off the "auto" and just have it on full beam locked instead if I want? Though I do like the idea that it will dip the lights that blind other road users.. Just want the b**8rd to work.....

Yes .. it’s in the settings , beam assist I believe , just turn it off and you are back in manual control ... I quite like the beam assist though but each to their own

Oh no I do want the beam assist to switch down etc when a car comes, it just seems it isn't working on my car ATM. Though I read elsewhere you need to travelling at a certain speed or higher before it will work!!? And it needs to be dark when you first switch on etc.. No idea how accurate they are mind but I will try to find a quiet dark road somewhere and try it again.

Yes you need to be up above 30 from memory and no lights around ...

That explains why my test on the driveway failed... I will have to get out somewhere (not today, not going out in thick snow!) nice and dark and try them!

Over 30, must be dark, no street lights, no cars in front of you or coming the other way. If there are it will adjust accordingly to their distance.

as stupid as other manufacturers, coz in unlit country lanes in bad weather its so much safer with dip beam !!!

just as star wrote

I hate the system, it’s too slow etc etc. I always switch it off.

Not everyone is the same. I like it personally. The op might try and like it or absolutely hate it. Trial and error, at least it is there unlike manufacturers that dont even include as standard.

I didnt think anything was standard on a Merc

mate is trying to spec a BM 5 series wot a joke....

they do 4 packages of options bundled together (all designed to save u a few pennies) NOT one feature in any bundle is worth having

individual addons you need sticking to the bare minimum to have a car worth owning adds 10k to the price and that's still leaving another 5k of toys you want but can't afford

making a 520d 52k get the engine you want "add a few toy"s and its over 70

back on message...

why would you want a system that makes the car more dangerous to drive?
I was going to say if it auto dipped and you picked when to go back to main it would be OK....

but then there are times when is safer that you leave it on main beam and don't crash.... but unfortunately end up blinding another driver for a few seconds... so high beam assist, really is just a dangerous toy no one ever needed

Well I used it once when I first got the car and it was quite impressive with the beam dipping when cars coming but leaving the left hand beam on so I could see the road etc. But it did take about 3-5 seconds between switching it on and the lights actually coming on. I have no idea what it won't work under 30 that makes no sense to me but still...

I think the ILS was standard on the pre-facelift W212 AMG Sport like mine. That is your full works of cornering lights, lights that turn, auto beam assist etc.
Come facelift time it all went bare bones but that’s a different story.

I thought ILS was an optional extra although mine is the AMG Line.... It is also LEDs of course.

Yes you leave it on, and it will work its magic as and when the time comes. I think it is a truly brilliant system and love it! In fact I had to pay close to £600 to add it as an option on our recent purchase.
(If you are getting the Auto sign on your dash it is working, just go for a drive down some country roads!)
