Hello all
I thought I'd follow up here to let you know what happened.
Recap: Got my A200 AMG back from it's 2nd service (10k miles), to be told that the brakes and discs were below minimum and needed replacing.
I got a second opinion and they said that there was about a third left on the pads, so they'd be ok for a while. The discs however showed very little wear and were like new.
I've complained to Mercedes, yet to have a response.
Last Merc I'm buying!

I know it's annoying but don't rule out a whole car brand because of an individual , this is common practice for most brands now , they even invented a name for the practice . It's called "bending the customer over :shock: " , sorry I mean "up selling" :D

I just spent a few hour for nothing as it happens with my XC90 at my local service centre.
Whilst sitting there invisibly I heard a customer being called about their V40 pads- apparently they need changed at 4mm as a matter of urgency and can’t let the car leave because of that....
Then ‘ oh yes they’re £ 185 a pair oh and you need discs at the same time - never good just to change pads- so that’ll be £395.....discount ? Erm let me check ( service guy puts the phone down pretending to shout to someone else) - yip boss says you can have 20% off’
Customer rings off saying they’ll shop around
Phone rings ‘ oh hello mrs blah blah....you can get them for £210 elsewhere.....no no can’t match that....( covers mouthpiece again)...ok spoke to the service manager £250 is the best we can do....
Point is it’s not the marque it’s the individuals and individual dealerships

I hate people that take advantage of those who don't know any better. Lying to drum up business is despicable in my book.

Sadly as people have become less savvy about cars (I can remember a time where almost everyone knew how to change a wheel) the trade in general has become more adept at fleecing them.
It's endemic across the industry and one of the reasons why we recommend the Indy's on here as they have proved time and again to not only be knowledgeable but also totally trustworthy.

Even then, you still need your wits about you when an Indy quotes 'twice as much' as the dealer for a Roadster's water pump change & implies that my 3rd row seats required removal to access the top of my car's rear shockers. Not sure whether it was just ignorance on both both counts or arogance. They (or particularly one of them) do come across as holier than thou

Ah but was that one of 'our' Indy's or a Smart one?

Hi gents,

As an aside on this thread, I actually ended up getting the Front & Rear discs, pads and sensors for my C-class Estate from a Mercedes Main Dealer, the price was actually quite close to that found on most suppliers' pages (for Pagid, as that was my reference), and had the advantage that they had everything I wanted in stock, and checking compatibility was quite straightforward.

Next thing to do is fit them :) Its either fit these this weekend, or fit the track rod ends to the Hilux Surf, need to do one or the other, and doubtful I'll get the spare time to do both.........
