The last set of 'genuine' MB front pads I purchased for my old E240 had PAGID stamped into the metal back plate as did the ones I took off and they did the job they were supposed to do.

'tis done...

3 hours and well worth the effort.
A pair of drilled discs £62
A set of EBC Ultimax pads £41
A pair of disc retaining bolts £2.50

Hub before.jpg

As you can see there were some "issues" with the originals, and the pads were fubarred but still had loads of wear left. Whoever fitted new pads to those discs should be castrated with a blunt razor blade.

The new pads were painted on the faces with a "Bedding in" coating. This appears to assist in the process of bedding in and also burning off the crap left from fingers when assembling. I cleaned the braking faces of the disc first, but not all obviously came off....given the smell and the smoke after some "enthusiastic" progressive braking to get things warmed up....

Rears to do...... soon

"Can you imagine TMD the largest brake manufacture in the world adding some squeal mixture to the compound to some of their brands"

I liked that phrase "squeal mixture" thats what I used to call an old girlfriends favourite drink.
I'm pretty sure TMD don't add Champage to the friction mix though.

I have in the past often cleaned off the rusty outer edges of my discs with an angle-grinder, and removed the 'lip' that occurs through wear. Naughty but nice.

Baz

That seems a little drastic but I have myself resorted to using a small hammer to remove that rusty lip, and to sanding back glazed pads.

However I was referring to the skimming of disc braking surface faces.

I too have resorted to spinning off the "Edge" that appears if only to allow easier pad removal and less crap breaking off during use.

The recent brakes refurb on the fronts was long overdue, and even a skim up of the discs wouldn't have sufficed. After all they are the only thing keeping you alive when you need them the most...

Nothing wrong with a deftly wielded angle grinder.

Atleast this gives you a good idea of how much they would be to replace with premium, original quality parts

Patrick

You have some ATE pads advertised on your ECP ebay outlet with product details stating they are ceramic, but the part number is for the original pads.....

In my book, them back plates would have been changed at the same time, they are done. Kaput.

Apologies for dredging up an old thread...
I've just got my A200 back from the dealer and they're advising new pads and discs after 10,000 miles!
"Front disc condition 25.81mm (min 26mm)".
Do Mercedes make their discs out of cheese? Surely the discs should last longer than a set of pads! Plus, if it's below the minimum, is it safe to drive?

I would get a second opinion and have them measured, 10k is nothing disks should last at least 2 sets of pads

Even on mine I’m on my second set of pads and original discs c29k. Discs I think I’ll have to replace with the next set of pads in 5/6k so the discs will have covered near 35k.
Usual rule 2 sets of pads to 1 set of discs

We've had our 210 for 23k miles. We have yet to change pads or discs on it. Definitely get another opinion.

Hello all
I thought I'd follow up here to let you know what happened.
Recap: Got my A200 AMG back from it's 2nd service (10k miles), to be told that the brakes and discs were below minimum and needed replacing.
I got a second opinion and they said that there was about a third left on the pads, so they'd be ok for a while. The discs however showed very little wear and were like new.
I've complained to Mercedes, yet to have a response.
Last Merc I'm buying!
Thanks all for your feedback.
