I recently bought a ROAD ANGEL NAVIGATOR 6000 (£169.99) ... its speed camera detector + navigation unit (full UK post code search) ... I quiet like it now, especially like to just use the speed camera detection side of it rather than navigation. O there is a monthly subscription but first 6 months free.

For anybody who is thinking about going down the Tom Tom route for either Go 510, 710 or 910, Brodit don't have a mounting kit for these models and according to their email correspondent, neither do they intend producing one.

If anybody knows of another manufacturer who makes one for these Tomtom models, I would appreciate details. Thanks to any who respond.

I used a Navman for over a year ... I now have a TomTom (Rider).
The TomTom is far superior

I like the idea of its portability between vehicles.

One point that hasn't been mentioned here, that I find very useful, is the ability to plan a journey(s) at your desk /night before. Get in your car and you are ready to go. The TomTom has a battery built in so you can fire it up anywhere to do your planning

I have downloaded POIs off the 'net and have compiled one of my own, so it is very flexible. I travel quite a bit so I have hotel chains, Indian /Mexican /Chinese restaurants  ... and speed cameras obviously

"Itineraries" is a useful feature too ... normal a-b planning is shortest or quickest route. Often an "enthusiast" isn't worried about the destination but the journey, (s)he wants to be able to plan a route that takes in many "waypoints" .

A subscription service you can get (that I used as a trial) is traffic holdups ... the GPS connects to your phone (via Bluetooth) and downloads traffic info (via GPRS) for your planned route ... it will then give you a revised ETA ... you can route around it /stick with it - your choice...

It's a fantastic bit of kit - and I get regular updates for it by plugging it into my PC

I use Comand and the TMC function is brilliant! Just select Map (for routes you know) and the system will show slow moving traffic / hold-up so you can avoid getting caught. Route guidance is good to, took me directly to parking in centre of Oxford, no problem. AND nothing to stick on the windscreen / remember to remove each time I park up. Plus total integration with MB systems...no contest!

So can someone tell me how much it actually cost to get a Command and have it fitted, I have a 55 C230 CDI Coupe which currently has a Audio 20 with the Ipod kit? I really don't want the hassle of putting away a TomTom each time I park up and the Command system looks so sexy.

I also didn't realise it could play DVDs and receive TV which also sound like a really useful feature.

Send me an email to sales@comand.co.uk and I'll give you a competitive quote.;)

We can also quote for Leather re-trimming, window tinting, Luxury climate control, and various 'undocumented' mods like, tank content display, auto folding mirrors, changing the KPH display, tyre pressure warning which we do for free with comand installs if the customer wants it done.

Just got me updated navigation system it is called a MAP comes in paper form, four colour and is oh so easy to follow AND I can leave it in the car without hiding it as no oik worth his salt will want to pinch it.

No connections, no plugging in, no strange voices talking to me - apart from those in my head - and when I get lost I can pull over relax and open up my map book take the odd hour to find out where I should be without having to press buttons and things, oh yes the cost £4.50, magic;);)

At the risk of this topic being exhausted I`m considering my first ever purchase of a sat nav and have more or less settled on Which? Best buy Tom Tom 930. Anybody using one? I`m also thinking that I might be too lazy to remove it every time I park.........do users really remove them when parked? How many of you guys have had a sat navs stolen?

They sure do and even polish off any windscreen sticker marks

For this reason I mount the sticker pad on the front of the radio screen (Audio20 Radio/CD) on the C Class. Down by the gear lever the screen is easy to refer to, but as I generally work off the voice instructions, I seldom look down.

I remove the satnav, holder and wiring when not in the car - no matter how briefly, so that there is no trace.

Sadly, not only do thieves target cars which have the telltale circular mark of the sticker disc on the inside of the windscreen - they also target public service vehicles (ambulances, fire engines)!!

Finally, on a finer point, even if you have COMAND, or don't use satnav yourself, if your dealer or Indy collects and delivers, and their delivery driver uses portable satnav - be sure to remove the circular mark or you risk having your car broken into through no fault of your own for something that isn't there.

I'm not paranoid, really. But these are sad reflections of the times in which we live.

Yes I keep mine stashed in the fire extinguisher pocket in the front of the drivers seat (shh don't tell anyone).
Its out of sight and I try to ensure no circles on the screen or I suspect the window would need replacing. Never happened but it will if I leave it on show.
General concensus is that tomtom is still the best on the market. Not perfect but the best. I've just installed tomtom on my new phone too.
