CLS 320 CDI remapped (W219)
We would welcome the winner to be announced and reviewed in Mercedes Owner magazine.

William, keep this in mind, and see you at the Go-Karting event, you can't remap these .......I think!.

I'll throw mine in;

C230k (w203) 2.3(m111) 2002.

Just a suggestion, maybe pick a petrol and a diesel.

Yes a nice blended eco/performance map would do the trick on the 280 cdi!

Would go rather well after some digital tweaking!!!

The gains are excellent on the blue efficiency models. We can extract an extra 60 bhp and 110 nm of torque!

Should get 40-45 bhp and 80-85 nm of torque. We have done quite a few of these and they become rockets!

William

perhaps a ridiculous question, but how is economy affected?

i used to run a Golf R32 and that was performance mapped but the mpg (when being sensible) also improved quite a bit... the original figures were (and this is going from memory, so may be a bit out) 22.5mpg (combined) and over 8,000 miles i averaged 27.2mpg

It is achieved by engine efficiency. We can blend the map with economy up until 100% throttle and have the performance kick in then.

Even with a performance map, like for like driving should yield more MPG. Having the extra torque in the correct place will pull the vehicle up to speed a lot easier. High gear + low revs = better MPG. (basically)

Excuse me for my ignorance, but I need to ask a question. How can you increase hp and improve efficiency, surely by increasing hp of an engine you are changing fuelling parameters, if it has more hp it will need more fuel output. The way I understand it to increase efficiency of an engine you need it to use less fuel, but this is counterproductive to having more power which needs more fuel to prevent lean running. I'd just like to understand how this works.....

P.S. I am interested in a remap too, but after strapping a turbocharger to my engine first

I think he had already covered that by saying more HP = getting to cruising speed faster = less revs earlier.

Not entirely sure the reduced time to cruising speed will actually result in higher MPG tho :)

Good Morning,

This is a common question. Yes we inject more fuel to increase power but ONLY in places of interest to create the HP and torque output required. Of course fuel can be everywhere to produce more power but this would not be effective for producing a balanced level of power whilst retaining economy.

The fuel that is injected is at higher pressure to create a finer spray pattern.

This is where the efficiency comes into play, Yes more fuel is injected but it is used far more effectivly and efficiently than a standard form.

(each "Drop" of fuel becomes more thermo efficient than before) Ie yes more fuel but the extra amount of fuel is being put to better use with less waste due to the pressure thurs prducing more power and using the less fuel to prodcue the "Factory" output. This combined with other key factors such as Deg of timing pulse with ect.

Basic understanding - Finer spray = better atomisation = Greater Power Output

Hope this helps, if you do require any addition info please feel free to get in touch.

Kind Regards

William

You would see a very small amount of power however throttle responce and drivabilty would be greatly improved.

Outright power would not be somthing that remapping would help without the aid of a pully upgrade then you would see gains worthy respectable power :D

Kind Regards
