Guy’s I’ve found a W123 200t after many mouths of searching the internet. The 200t model wasn’t my first choice however it’s a good value car, clean and tidy with low mileage. My question after research the 200t is described as the one ‘shunned’ by collectors. This has left me thinking am I making an error. Yes it is poverty spec but has little to go wrong surely. Any advise or positive feedback would be appreciated.

Welcome. From the name it sounds like it's got a 2lt engine, which is probably one of the reasons it's not a collectible. From experience I can tell you that 2lt motor in a big heavy car is an absolute slug (even worse when you mate it to an automatic box). My personal feeling is that if you got a good bodyshell, you can change the motor if it bothers you that much. Having said that, if you are not looking for a race car or an investment you will probably have a great time with her.

Hello and Welcome, I had a W123 230TE for awhile, the 2.3ltr engine and manual box was fine but was never going to set the world alight. The body was so badly rusted it wasn't economical to repair unfortunately, it was very nice and relaxing to drive though.

Thank you for your reply & warm welcome guys.... 100% not interested in speed. It’s purely for the retro aspect. However I am keen on the future value.

The odd thing about vehicles that are shunned is that they become rarer than the collectibles which will eventually level the playing field a little. Just depends how long you want to keep it.

No the quickest of cars, in fact slow isn't the word. Even worse when cold.

Welcome, so much quicker than my 240d / OM616.

IIRC, my 0 to 60 is 22 seconds.

Na, my 1968 240d was slow, I even towed my Mitsubishi Tredia with it once on the car trailer, it struggled on the flat, got to a hill and...well you would guess the rest  good old Rattley never a dull moment
