A 'specialist' garage has been trying to fix this fault for 6 months!
When my 300CE gets to normal temperature the engine coughs and cuts out. If left for about one hour it will start again and be OK.

The garage has changed the distributor cap etc (twice), the fuel metering unit and tuned the engine numerous times. Each time they say that they have fully road tested the car - but everytime I collect it (5 times now), it cuts out again the next time I use it.

Luckily I only use the car very rarely, but I want to sell it and it's not fair to sell the problem on to someone else.

PLEASE anyone help me.

Hello,
sorry I don't know your name. Most of the "specialsis" are not really good with the KE Jetronic. You need to pulse out the error memory from the onboard computer. Replacing all electrics however is essential bevore you start tresting the KE system. To be honest it could be a lot of things wrong, starting with the fuel pump relais to the Potentiometer of the LMM and also the whole inlet manifold has to be cleaned at one pont in it's live. Checking the fuel system pressure is also recomendet. If you plan a hollyday in Devon just pop in :)

Good Luck,

Oliver

Thanks for all your messages - Oliver, your ideas sound costly, especially when I'm selling the car as soon as the problem is cured (I hope it's something simple).
I'm driving through Devon next month but I can't use the 300CE because of the fault - I'll be using my E class estate.

By the way my name's Rob. Being a new user I didn't think of using my name - stupid, or what.

Hi Rob...

another wonderfull W124 selling with a KE problem.. It's a pitty...

The problem is not the material, but the amount of working hours. I visited a chap in Germany recently with a similar problem. It took me 5 hours
to check and test the whole system including changing some parts. If you visit a Mercedes Garage they may change all the Stuff in one go and... your holliday is posponed to next year :-(

A hot tip at the end... Disconnect the ECU unit (behind the battery first long box) when the car is warm. Disconnect Battery first and try if you are able to start and drive than. If everything is OK after and the engine does not cut out you got half of the rent :) ( a German saying...)

Cheers,
Oliver

If the fuel pump enegizes or can be heard running, checkout the TDC sensor then ign pack.
