2000 E240 issues

Hi guys, I need help again.

My 2000 E240 has sensors (I forget what they are called) that are supposed to tell me when I'm getting too close to an obstacle.
Currently, I am not getting any beeping sounds even when I get close to walls and stuff.
What could be the problem and how can I rectify it?

Also, I need to know when to use the EC function (in relation to air conditioning).
Can someone explain this to me please.

On the 'parktronic' - do the displays show you getting closer? or is the whole thing on the blink.
The EC button turns OFF the aircon (EConomy). So, red light on = aircon off.

If the displays do not work as well then it may not be activated or the control box is faulty
