I have a 2004 Grand cherokee 2.7 CRD auto that has the Mercedes engine & box so thought you guys in the Merc forums would be the most help.
I was out yesterday & as I pulled off the gearbox didn't change up & stuck in 2nd gear, then the engine management light flicked on.
After a few seconds it changed gear but the gear change didn't feel quite right. I carried on driving it & once it has got into top gear its seemed ok but when you stop & pull off it doesn't want to change up & sticks for a while!
It also downshifted with a bit of a thud once or twice & the engine management light keeps flicking on & off with the funny gear change.
The vehicle only has 63,000 miles & full service history but I have a bad feeling about the gearbox.
The first thing I did was to attempt to check the auto box fluid............but no dipstick! It says in the manual that it has to go to the dealer for special tools to check the fluid?
