I've ordered a dip stick that hasn't arrived yet and I have a long journey coming up and would like to check the AFT level before setting off. I can probably find another flexi dipstick but dont know how far up the stick the AFT should read (if it has the correct amount in it).

Do you what it should read when cold/hot?

Thanks in advance.

always
flat surface, engine running, gearbox in park, NORMAL operating temperature
(e.g. hot - do at least a 4 mile journey, in this weather make it 6)

the best way would be either genuine dipstick tube and stick for your exact car.... or drain and fill with correct quantity - checking on STAR then find what this looks like on the dip stick u have and mark it carefully.

Always go by the dipstick, not how much you drain out, that is a good get you by procedure, but not accurate. On the dipstick you have 2 marks to measure at cold and at 80'c +. At the 80'c marker you have 2 lines. The oil level needs to be in-between those lines with the engine running.

I always measure at 80'c. A much better indicator.

Commonly the sump holds 3.75L and the whole system 6.5L.
