Hi

Generally speaking it handles OK for a large car....... But......

F Me, it squirms like a hugged cat on anything other than dry roads. If I ride over cats eyes it squirms a little too.

Is this normal behaviour for the CLS?

The tyres are huge btw, 270 I think are on the rear with spacers from the previous owner but I'm taking those off.

Don't think mine is any worse than the C207 350CDi or the W211 320CDi. What are the tyres like (make/age/tread)?

I guess 1st thing to try is tyres. There're all premium brands, matching, rears are nearing the wear indicator though

I have the 219 CLS. On the OEM contisports it was unpredictable. Caused me have a unproved massive oversteer moment joining the motorway slip road and under normal but would also squirm under breaking and easily begin to understeer when, speeds were average road speeds. Replaced with Goodyear Eagle and it’s epic, it’s solid and can be pushed staggeringly rain or shine.

If it’s not tyres than you need to start looking at suspension components.

Perfects thanks. So tyre choice is paramount then. Good to know. Thank you.

Yes and the key word, you nailed, ‘paramount’. Just because something is premium doesn’t mean it is. Falken are good performers and I’m running their Fk520 on it at present due to two punctures (builders nails/screws). I always put my money where my mouth is and you won’t go wrong with Falken FK510/Fk520, Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 onwards.

I second DSK's comments regarding Cont-ies. My W211 was horrible & figity especially in the wet, over manhole covers, road markings etc etc. Changed to Hankooks, which were imeasurably better. Have them on the W216, now.

I, too, thought Cont-ies were OE premium equipment.

Good to know. Thanks for backing up what had been said already. "Figity" is the perfect word to describe it.

The PO also fitted 25mm spacers on the rear, these will be coming off asap
