Just a line to say how well my old 230E is doing, I have owned this J Reg Merc for 5 years and she has sailed through the M.O.T each time. I replaced the exhaust back box when I first got it and I change Filters and oil before the required times.

Starts first time, every time.and no rust.

I think 190,000 is the required mileage for engine "running in"

Now the question is should I be looking for a 2.4 Elegance? or stick with the one I know?

Why change? Sounds like you have a perfectly reliable and sound motor.

A diesel
It is 193k, butt eh O/p made a mistake in the title.

At that mileage on a petrol I would be changing the timing chain, I have known them snap around there.

I would only change it because you want to change, not because you think you would be getting an improvement. If keeping yours stick with the oil changes etc and she'll go on forever!

It still started and drove after that , but I broke it as it was severely damaged . To make things worse , the woman who demolished my garden wall was uninsured .

Looks like she might have ruined your house if the dear old car hadn't given it's life for the cause!
