having fuel starvation problems when tank is just under half, cuts out if running, sit and wind it up it will run again for a short time. If i park on an incline however slight, starting is also a problem, seems like fuel is running back from the pump etc, could this be a one way valve, loss of vaccum or something?. Car drives a dream when fuel is full to half.

hi ray, you could be sucking air on one of the "o" rings on the negative side of the fuel system, it is quite common. you can also fit a nonreturn valve in the fuel supply pipe, i have seen leon thornley a merc inde doing this on an e-300 td like yours. herbiemercman.
