Pre and post facelift so there maybe differences…

If you can get the parts diagrams up you can see if they’re the same or not.

Mirrors were different, not sure much else on the door was

There's quite a few E Class doors listed on Ebay who state 2002 to 2009 on the fitment if that helps? If they're right of course..

My other thought was that the new one won't fit unless you remove the old one first... - glad I only thought that and didn't type it....

Correct, they are the same door shells.
Some had different glass tint, door mirror, door handles, door cards and the biggest difference, colour
