Hi all
Can I ask some advise. I have had my CLK for about 4 weeks and have used it with the top down this weekend for the first time.
The roof goes up and down without any problems but it does make a few noises. Can someone please tell me if the following is normal.

ROOF GOING DOWN
The final part of the system is the metal cover coming back down and some flaps going in. There is a 'clunk' when it locks in place.

ROOF GOING UP
When the rear window locks in place it clunks.

Are these normal for a 2005 model?
Is it just making sure that the roof is rigid when closed?
Am I being paranoid?

Regards

Richard

Check the hinges on the rear bow cover, they are prone to breaking and there are modified hinges to fit.

Open the hood until the rear bow lifts up and then check the hinges that way, you will see a small plastic elbowed arm in the middle, that is the bit that snaps.

Can be fairly noisy. Have you stood outside and operated the roof with the key fob pointed at the drivers door lock? This would give you a better view of what's going on...

My friend has a 2007 model. His makes the same noise when closing but is completely clunk free when the roof opens. Would both cars have exactly the same mechanism? We noticed that his did not give an open or close notification on the dashboard display.

If his makes the same noise his hinges are probably broken as well !

I did have one making noise from another forum member which adjustment cured ( you could clearly see the cover needed adjusting ).
The 2007 car will be identical

any chance of a diagram where this should be adjusted. I mean, it's not like I can get a Haynes manual. I have a heavy clunking when my roof goes into the boot, and it is now tearing the material away from he glass window surround.

Just to say that I sorted this problem with a can of WD40. My roof opens and closes softly now.
Shame about the rattles from the windows when going over bumps!

I realise this is an old thread, but I was wondering if you could let me know where I can obtain the modified hinges that you mentioned?

Our e350 plate makes a bang when the roof touches the plate and slides into its locked position. I spoke to Mercedes and they said they are ment too .
