Well gents, here's an update...

All back home safe and sound! Phil has diagnosed a failed MAF (so Malcolm, the first thing you said to me, ever, was correct!), air con needs regassing and may have a leak, and I think I have a loose exhaust heat shield, but apart from those fripperies we're home free now. Phew.

Welwyn Merx is now doing valve block rebuilds by the way following the trial on my car.

You could clean the MAF for now,,, it could be dusty. Cleaning though does little on a petrol. It must feel good to have the car back. My SL is still on its original MAF.

The MAF must be a Bosch, not cheap from Bosch, good deals on Ebay sometimes. If there is a Bosch part number on the actual sensor in the tube it will be ½ the price, they charge £75 for the plastic tube that houses the actual sensor.

Thanks Alex

Im trying to think if that's the vehicle level or the wheel level.

If vehicle level, then it would be low all round, and that reading would tell me you have an intermittent faulty sensor on one wheel.

If you have a leak then you do need to track that down. Possibly a pin hole leak in the hose or from the strut itself.

The front/rear valve body is easy to locate for leaks. The pressure sensor is on the front right, so possibly not that leaking.

The front one is accessible from the front left wheel arch. Or from underneath the front bumper covers.

The rear one is easy to get to, just jack the back left of the car up, and remove the cover with 10mm plastic nuts. It covers the fuel filter assembly and the valve block.

Have a look at my guide here:
