I have a 2008 cls 320cdi.

Abs fault,

Diag had no reading from front right, I check sensor and replaced and that's good, now front left is intermittent, its says check distance from sensor, could this just be a sensor or do they have abs ring

of course they have a ring, laminated to rubber ring. 90% its ring fault, not sensor. Also bearing gap may cause misreadings.

What I was leading to was, do they have a ring or is it built into the bearing.
I haven't taken that side apart yet, that's my next challenge. Are the rings visible without taking hub apart.?

You might see enuf if u remove wss and shine torch down hole. I may get lucky and be able to blow any crud out with compressor and long nozzle blower failing that it's take to bits, vissualy inspect change as required

I took caliper off to gain access, gave it a clean and it was still intermittent so , I though **** or bust, I gave the ring a good scrape with screwdriver and the way around, and now no signal at all. So new ring needed I think.
Trying to work out if I can just change ring or if I have to replace bearing too

OK, I bought a new bearing, with new abs ring/oil seal.
I've fitted the ring and run live date and it reads it lovely.
I'm just a little cautious of the hub nut now, not sure how tight to do it before slacking off and how much to slacking off, I guess I'll have to wing it lol

More news, abs is good, and power steering works well, especially is still coming up, and I have one more fault, brake lamp switch, but brake lights work.
