my c250td is fitted with the long type pedal which hinges to the floor but i prefer the clutch pedal type like fitted to most cars, has anyone tried modifying theres or does the sport model etc have different pedals ? thanks shaun

Merc pedals have always been floor hinged. So are BMWs .
It's just a quirk of the make.
There is no difference in the use, you can still put your foot on it as if it was top hinged but I wouldn't attempt to modify as a) it would be very difficult and b) if you get it wrong and it jams, you're in serious trouble.

I always associate top hinged pedals with 'cheap' - probably because all the cheap cars I've had (Lada, ford etc) have been top hinged whereas all the classy stuff I've driven (MB & BMW) have been floor hinged - hence in my mind, its what 'proper' cars have.
